Oceanview Middle School was originally opened as a junior high school in 1960. Typhoon Pamela destroyed the school in 1976. After renovations, it was converted into a high school for school year 1982-1983. Upon completion of Southern High School in 1997, Oceanview changed again into a new middle school. A fresh combination of students, teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators emerged. Being the newest middle school didn't come easy. From a lack of resources due to Typhoon Paka the school has met many challenges. The process of addressing issues and resolving problems requires patience, resourcefulness, and determination. Importantly, teamwork and united school spirit made the difference because everyone moved forward to a brighter side here at Oceanview Middle School.
As a middle school, Oceanview Middle School was granted Initial Accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for school year 2007-2008 for a three (3) year term ending June 30, 2011. Oceanview Middle School educates the children from the villages of Agat, Santa Rita, and Umatac from sixth grade to eighth grade. Oceanview is part of the Haya district. The surrounding communities are Piti, Asan, Nimitz Hill, Santa Rita, and Umatac. We serve a multiethnic population, which consists of Chamorro, Filipino, Micronesian, and Asian just to name a few. English is the first language for nearly all of our students.
